The Basilica table by Mario Bellini was part of a collection of new design from the 1970s that was influenced by classical architectural structures. In this case, the noble Basilican; A long hallway with columns on either side often used in churches and in Roman times as a court of law and space for public assembly. The Basilica table with 3 evenly spaced legs on either side, highlights the interconnectedness between furniture design and architecture, as demonstrated by the incorporation of structural elements, such as pillars.
