Vintage 1970's Cassina Soriana Chairs by Afra & Tobia Scarpa, Set of 2
The now iconic "Soriana" Lounge Chair by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina. was originally released in the 1960s, but the design was not fully recognized until the 1970s. Clearly ahead of its time, the Soriana collection was celebrated for innovative design and comfort.
The chairs are characterized by their distinctive silhouette, featuring soft curves and deep cushioning that balance aesthetics with function. Their design has garnered numerous accolades, including recognition at the prestigious Compasso d'Oro awards of 1970.
Characterized by a low profile that encourages relaxation, the chairs feature a minimal structure made of chromed steel. This framework maintains the tautness of the upholstery, secured by buttons at the seat, allowing the fabric to wrap elegantly where it folds along the sides and back. The T-shaped metal components encase the seat, enclosing a polyurethane fill for added comfort.
These specific chairs are a 1970's edition that have been restored and reupholstered in a subtly mottled caramel-colored leather by the infamous Morentz gallery. They remain in excellent condition.
The "Soriana" Lounge Chairs reflect the enduring legacy of Afra and Tobia Scarpa and their contributions to contemporary furniture design.
